Make Money With Image Hosts - Part 1
Making money with image hosts is quite simple and can be split up into 3 main parts :
- Setup
- Promotion
- Profit
I’ll make each part a separate blog post. This will not be a complete step-by-step guide with screen shots for dummies, I’ll assume you already know how to upload files to your web server and do other simple talks. Now without further to do, let the teachings begin.
Setup:
Setting up an image hosting site involves choosing 3 things :
- Domain
- Host/Server
- Script
Domain:
Choosing a domain can be tricky, especially since a lot of the good ones are already taken. An important thing to remember is that while .Com domains are usually preferred there is nothing wrong with a .Org or .Net.
When choosing a domain it is also important to try and include a keyword relating to images or hosting. This isn’t extremely vital since most of the traffic won’t be coming from search engines, but every little helps. A related keyword in the domain could also increase the value of the site when you decide to sell it.
Be creative! If you run out of ideas how about choosing a theme and basing the domain and site all around it. For example, www.NinjaImageShack.com is available, and who doesn’t love ninjas!? This will also make your site stand out from the crowd of generic image host sites.
I recommend registering the domain at GoDaddy , I’m not affiliated with them in anyway, I’m recommending them because they provide a great service at a great price and make transferring the domain name to a new owner very easy which will help when you decide to sell the site.
Host:
The first thing to do when deciding on a hosting provider is making sure they allow image hosting sites on their server. Many shared hosting suppliers (such as HostGator) have a TOS which doesn’t allow them. So instead of searching around everywhere for a shared hosting supplier which allows image hosting scripts I recommend getting a VPS.
You can find someone selling at the B/S/T of Digtalpoint . You will usually find someone selling VPS hosting for a reasonable price. Alternatively you can go to and get a VPS there.
Script:
The script is the easiest part. There are many scripts available, however the best one is made by the Mihalism Fourm and can be downloaded here . The script has lot of space for ads and is very well coded. Installation is very straight forward, just upload all the files to your server. If you want a theme made (perhaps a ninja one?) you can try going to the digital point forums and trying to find someone that will be willing to make one for you.
